South Carolina Lake Levels 


New Update!  November 1, 2014

All the lake levels have been lowered by design to help with winter water runoff from rain and snow.

Smaller lakes in South Carolina usually stay within a couple of feet of full pool elevation most of the year.  No problems to report for the smaller lakes. 

Please note:  All lake levels are reported in feet below or above the full pool elevation of each reservoir listed.  Sources:  US Army Corps of Engineers, Duke Energy, and SCDNR Lake Levels.   All data compiled from the websites of the sources sited.  Any lake that is less than one foot down is estimated to be at full pool elevation.

South Carolina is home to 12 major lakes with sizes ranging from 7,500 acres to 110,000 acres. The lakes in South Carolina have contrasting views that make them unique such as Lake Jocassee in the upstate mountains and the swampy wilderness of Lake Marion in the lowlands of South Carolina. No matter where you are in South Carolina there is always a major lake in driving range.

All the lakes mentioned on this website have all the amenities you need for a great lake vacation or day trip. Also, all of these lakes have campgrounds and public landings for boating. Consequently, you can also find South Carolina state parks on most of these lakes.


This website provides photos and information about each of these major lakes including lake specifications, business information, and direct links to buy waterproof lake maps for the lake you choose.

Caught Four Bass at Lake Keowee - March 3, 2014

I just went bass fishing today at Lake Keowee and caught four fish.   I caught three Kentucky Spotted and one largemouth.  All the fish were caught at 20-30 foot depth.   They all hit a 6" Zoom Chartreuse Lizard.  The surface water temperature was 58 - 60 F.

Lake Hartwell Selected for Bassmaster Classic 2015

According to Bassmaster.com, Bassmaster has selected Lake Hartwell for the Bassmaster Classic Championship Tournament to be held in 2015. A new multi-million dollar boat launching facility called Green Pond has been built near Anderson South Carolina for this event.  On February 20th through 22nd of 2014 bass anglers will be trying to qualify for this championship bass tournament through various Bassmaster competitions.  After the tournament, the bass anglers will bring their fish to the Bon Secours Wellness Arena located in Greenville South Carolina for the weigh in.  At the same time in Greenville SC, the Bassmaster Classic Outdoors Expo will be held at the TD Convention Center.  The public is invited to watch the tournament and attend the Bassmaster Classic Expo.  The tournament was held once before on Lake Hartwell back in 2008 with 75,000 in attendance.  For more complete information, please read the original source article on Bassmaster.com below:

Check Out Upstate Outdoors on WORD Radio at103.6 FM


There is a new local radio show called the Upstate Outdoors on WORD Radio 106.3 FM in Greenville SC.  It can be heard regularly from 12:00 until 2:00 pm on Saturdays.   This show can also be heard from the internet at http://www.word1063.com/Upstate-Outdoors/17282334 .  Upstate Outdoors talks about hunting and fishing in the upstate of South Carolina.  It can be a valuable resource if you plan on visiting South Carolina on a hunting or fishing trip.  You will hear Phillip Gentry and Tommy Springer, local sportsmen,  discuss the local hunting and fishing opportunities in the Upstate of South Carolina.  You will get a laugh and learn a lot from these guys. They are really great on the radio.  If you live outside the local area, just check it out on the internet with your smart phone or computer.

Visitors can fish Lake Oolenoy from the dock at Table Rock State Park Visitors Center on located on Highway 11. There are two docks to fish from.  The dock at the visitors center is free, but you must pay $2 per person to fish the second dock located at the boat ramp.  This lake is an excellent choice for a family fishing trip with little cost.
